Grants for Purchasing CVSA &
Training
The
economy hits a low every
ten-years or so and the
country goes into a
recession. Typically, this
can result in increased
crime rates. Unfortunately,
this is also the time when
budgets for law enforcement
are cut, and monies for new
purchases and training are
often the first to be
eliminated. This includes
funding to purchase the CVSA
as well as both new examiner
training and
re-certification training.
Just when departments need
the CVSA the most, they are
unable to acquire the very
tool that solves cases in a
very short time, often doing
work that would require two
or three additional
detectives.
Difficult times such as
these call for creativity.
Quite a few departments have
come up with creative ways
to fund the purchase of the
CVSA and required training.
Government grants such as
the Edward Byrne (JAG) Grant
through the US Department of
Justice: have helped many
agencies. These grants are
sometimes limited to
specific timeframes and
specific use. (Check with
your State on Release Dates
and Specifications). Listed
below are other creative
techniques departments have
found to fund the purchase
of the CVSA:
